September 15, 2008 General Meeting Minutes
RAINBOW WEST NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 @ 6:00 P.M.
BOARD & COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT:
Kim Worrall, Bill Sunlin, Ruby Liao and Lido Scardigli
OLD BUSINESS
Minutes of July meeting were approved.
FINANCIAL STATUS: Treasurer Ruby Liao provided a current financial report which reflected a cash position of $2,622.56. Ruby reported a discrepancy in 2008 account of about $200 which will be corrected on the next financial report. Ruby reemphasized the requirement of using the reimbursement form when reporting out-of-pocket expenses. Bill was asked to investigate placing the form on the Website for easier access.
Sadly, Ruby reported that due to personal commitments her last day as Treasurer is November 21, 2008. A replacement should be appointed at least a month prior to that date in order to facilitate a proper transition. The replacement will have the prerogative to report the financials with a different format. Currently the financials are managed on QuickBooks.
PICNIC REPORT: The picnic was a roaring success. It is estimated that 180 people attended, including our people from our local fire department. The event was held without a glitch, mainly due to the efforts of Donna and Harry Hadley and other committee helpers. Thank you Donna and Harry.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: The Home and Family Disaster Preparedness class was also an event well done. The class was presented by Alvin Galang of the San Jose Office of Emergency Services. People who attended learned about what hazards to be prepared for and how to reduce the risks of loss and injury before disaster strikes. It is estimated that about 25 people attended. Applause for Cindy Sakaguchi for the great effort she put forth to make this a successful night.
WEBSITE: Bill Sunlin reported that our Website will be moving to Pete Constant’s Web Hosting. Bill will also update our by-laws on our Website to revision 2. It seems help for further design of our Website has been difficult to come by. Several calls to a Rainbow West volunteer have gone unanswered.
Prospect Road Medium Project has taken a temporary setback. San Jose City will not consider the project until various crossing lanes are established to the City’s satisfaction.
General Meeting with Murdock will be held in the Lynbrook H.S. cafeteria on October 22. Prior to this, RWNA will hold an approximate 30 minute meeting to discuss its internal matters. The Street Smart speaker’s presentation start time has yet to be determined.
Walk to the End of the Rainbow an association-wide event designed to bring our members out with their families to enjoy an evening of fresh air and exercise was talked about. Calabazas Park could be the start point winding through neighborhoods and ending in Rainbow Park with planned activities and maybe a picnic. This could be a great opportunity for everyone to get out and meet their neighbors. This is listed as a possible event to occur in March on our 2008/2009 Calendar of Events.
Calabazas Creek Dog Park was brought again up by Kim Worrall. Kim mentioned that she met with Mike Mills from Parks and Rec and he seemed positive about the idea. Mike said he will be contacting the City with this idea and will get back to us with the results of his discussions.
