MEETING MINUTES
Topics of Discussion:
The State of the District presentation at Lynbrook High on May 22, 6:30 p.m. Board members are encouraged to attend
The upcoming caucus – anyone can attend. Kim agreed to be the designated RWNA representative.
Gang violence was an important topic. The mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force will hold a community meeting on the subject on May 28, 6:00 p.m. at Harker School.
Was the neighborhood cleanup program sponsored by the RWNA in 2007 effective? Most of the discussion was centered on were interested people adequately notified of the event and location of the dumpsters. Funding may also have been an issue. A few suggestions were made to make this year’s program more productive. The event was put on the backburner for later discussion.
The usefulness of the garage sale sponsored by the RWNA was also brought up. Only 37 families out of 1500 participated. Funding may have been an issue as well as organization of the event. Although there was some neighborly value gained, it was decided that the garage sale be discontinued unless CAP grant funding was made available.
The duties and relationship of the watch and block captains and their important contribution to the neighborhood was talked about. How they can then be utilized to help organize and/or announce upcoming events.
The general meeting was a major topic. Selected speakers will now need prior board approval. The police captain will be asked to make a short presentation at each general meeting followed by a few Q&A. Time management of the meeting was brought up as an issue as well. Collection of membership dues at the end of the meeting needs to be organized. Ron will need help. In tune with time management we will attempt to limit the main speaker’s presentation to 30 minutes. It was decided to hold the meeting from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Ruby presented her pass-down list (thank you Ruby). Insurance and Lynbrook High facilities were the main topics. Lido volunteered to use his name as the third RWNA insurance signee.
Miscellaneous items: Bill will manage securing a location for our 2008/2009 general meetings, Kim will work on providing the agendas and inviting the police captain. Bill said he will provide a rough draft of our Web site for board review next week.
Dates were set for the 2008 general meetings: July 23, October 22 and January 28, 2009 was tentatively scheduled for the Annual Meeting. A completed Form D – Schedule of Activities will be sent out shortly.
Next board meeting is scheduled for June 9, 6:00 p.m. at Kim’s home.
