RAINBOW WEST NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

GENERAL MEETING – JULY 24, 2008 @ 6:30 PM

The meeting was held jointly with the Miller and Murdock Neighborhood Associations at Lynbrook High School.

BOARD & COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT:

Kim Worral, Bill Sunlin, Ruby Liao, Lido Scardigli, Cindy Sakaguchi, Harry Hadley and

Donna Hadley & Laurie Pines

RNWA Business

Kim welcomed everyone and introduced 2 new board members – Cindi Bowen Co-Chair of the Neighborhood Watch Committee and Lido Scardigli as Secretary. Kim discussed the expanded agenda for the general meeting and there was a handout with the RNWA goals for the new year. She announced that we received $2,300 of CAP (Community Action and Pride) grant money.

( see the handout and our Web site for details of the allocation.)

Mary Anne Groen, Council Assistant for Pete Constant, announced the Festival in the Park on September 20 from 1- 5 pm at Hathaway Park. It is a free BBQ with activities for kids, is dog friendly and hopefully fire trucks will be there. She discussed the Winchester Blvd business district redevelopment project meeting on Aug 23 a.m. and asked that residents from District 1 attend and give input. There will be public workshops to help plan the project during August and September and further information on times and dates can be seen on:

www.sjredevelopment.org/winchesterenhancementstrategy.

Mary Anne also updated us on the Prospect median project proposed by Saratoga. They do have plans but no funding to date.

During the Q & A Mary Anne clarified that funding for Winchester district redevelopment is provided by the RDA agency. Traffic and speeding were addressed and Mary Anne will request a traffic study. She advised residents to report speeding on specific streets and worst times on the Website form and that flags streets that need police enforcement at the reported times. She mentioned that our joint neighborhood associations will work on the 15 mph speed limit recommended by DOT around schools at the bi-monthly District 1 leadership meetings.

Mosquito fogging was also brought up as a concern. It was apparently reported that 95129 will be affected. Mary Anne thought that it was limited to 95130 and information on this can be seen by Googling Vector Control.  Postcards are also sent to advise residents of fogging. Finally, Mary Ann will check on an assembly bill to not use water softeners.

Ruby Liao – Treasurer presented the RWNA financial report. See handout

Donna Hadley Chair of the Hospitality Committee presented details of the August 23 Picnic/Ice Cream RNWA Social to be held in Calabazas Park from 12:30 to 2;30 and asked for volunteers to help set up the event.

Harry Hadley Chair of the Traffic and Safety Committee spoke on issues concerning RWNA.

Speeding on Alderbrook and Rainbow is a major problem and he asked that we go through the Neighborhood Group even if residents report it on the Website.

Bill reported on the Website and that he needed help to develop the Web Site. An unidentified Rainbow West home owner from the audience volunteered.

Kim noted that there will be a Family Emergency Preparedness training class available through Cupertino on August 28 – Location to be announced and to check the Web site.

She said that RNWA was invited to the Murdoch National Night Out on Aug 5 and to bring something to BBQ, chairs and blankets and that a movie was being shown. This is a national day to sponsor neighbors meeting neighbors.

Guest Speaker

The principal speaker was Sandra Kwak of P G & E. Ms. Kwak discussed the Climate Smart Program and what we as home owners can do to fight global warming. She also fielded questions on how funding received from PG & E customers for this project was to be allocated. She

brought with her equipment that totaled a home’s carbon footprint and showed the Californian and U.S. averages.
