The New Library
The current library will be replaced with a new one, at
the same location. Our Association was highly interested in not having
it moved to a new location and had a significant voice in the decision
to keep the same location.
The following chart compares the current and new libraries.
| Service | Current | Proposed |
|---|---|---|
| Building Size | 5,880 square feet | 9,000 square feet |
| Computers | 11 | 25 |
| Seats | 42 | 52 |
| Program Room | 0 persons | 25 persons |
| Parking | 38 spaces | 45+ spaces |
The new library design will utilize about 30% of the space occupied by the neighborhood garden. It is expected that redesign of the garden for more efficiency will mitigate any impact. There will be space for a possible cafe vendor. There will be vending machines and what is called an Internet Cafe for comfortable reading and computer searching even if no vendor can be found. There will be a community room of almost 1,000 square feet. There were three meetings to discuss the design and receive inputs from the patrons. The award date for construction was 06/30/2009, the construction start date was 10/15/2009, and the beneficial use date is 02/26/2011. As a result, library services will not be available for a little over a year.
